So you want to buy a beach home?  Here are some of the things you should be thinking about while doing your due diligence.

Contact an agent in the area you would like to purchase (Kathleen Argiroff - 252-202-8147, on the OBX of NC)
We are in the internet age!  I find quite a few buyers will shop on their own.  They go to websites, such as my own, that have every home in the area they are searching listed for sale.  Not only are the homes listed for sale but a good website will let you know the proximity of the house to the schools, shopping etc.  A detailed map will display, chamber of commerce information etc.   There is nothing wrong with shopping the internet, but if you made a decision that you would like to purchase a home you are not doing yourself any favors waiting until the last minute to hire a real estate agent to work for you.   Your real estate agent has more than likely previewed most of the homes in the area you are looking and can be a valuable resource for you.  They are experienced!   I can't tell you how many of my buyers end up purchasing a home they never considered that I pulled out for them.   The sooner you contact an agent the better.
Contact a lender as soon as possible.
It is so much fun shopping for a house when you know EXACTLY how much you can spend.  And, that worry is behind you.  If your lender pre-approves you more than likely your transaction will run very smoothly.   If you are purchasing a beach home on the Outer Banks I suggest you contact a local lender. They are very familiar with vacation ownership, they have attractive lending programs for just that!  They know all the issues to expect in our area, they work closely with your closing attorney, real estate agent, insurance agent etc. I assure you your transaction will run much smoother.
Next week:  I'll talk about what steps you take once you find your dream home!   We make every transaction as smooth as possible.  We coordinate with your closing attorney, lender, insurance agents etc.  We have it all mapped out for you.
